Women's Basketball Ranked 24th In AP Top 25
Bulldogs crack AP poll for the first time since March 1, 2005
Feb. 1, 2010
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga University women’s basketball team cracked the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in nearly five year years. The Bulldogs, who have been receiving votes all season, bumped up to 24th this week with 83 total votes. It is the first time since March 1, 2005 the Zags have been ranked in the AP poll and just the third time in school history.
Gonzaga’s first appearance in the Top 25 came on Feb. 22, 2005. The Zags were then riding a 20-game winning streak, then nation’s longest at the time, to gain its No. 25 ranking in the Associated Press Poll.
The Zags, currently 18-4 overall, are on a nine-game winning streak dating back to Dec. 27, 2009 and have won the nine games by an average of 34.1 points per game....

The Gonzaga University women’s basketball team continues its slow climb up the Associated Press Top 25 poll, moving up two spots to 22nd this week with 118 votes; its highest ranking in school history. The Zags broke into the poll last week at 24th, were ranked 25th on Feb. 22, 2005 and 24th on March 1, 2005.
The Zags, who received 83 votes last week, defeated the University of Portland in their lone contest of the week by the score of 70-58. The Bulldogs are now 19-4 overall and 8-0 in West Coast Conference play.
Gonzaga has a tough two-game road trip ahead of itself this week. The Zags play at Saint Mary’s College on Thursday and the University of San Diego on Saturday. The Gaels are currently in second place in the WCC, one game behind the Bulldogs with an 8-1 mark. The Toreros are in third place with a 6-3 league record. GU’s contest at SMC is set for 7 p.m. and its game at USD is a 2 p.m. tip

More on Coaches' Poll
SPOKANE, Wash. – (Feb. 9, 2010 – www.GoZags.com) The Gonzaga University women’s basketball team is now ranked in both weekly Top 25 polls as it jumped into the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Top 25 Poll Tuesday for the first time this season. The Bulldogs checked in at 23rd after receiving 72 votes this week. GU was one of two new members to join the nation’s elite, as University of Hartford bumped in at 25th.
The Zags are also ranked 22nd in the Associated Press Top 25 this week.
It is the first time since the 2004-05 campaign that the Bulldogs have been ranked in the Coaches’ poll. Gonzaga, then riding the nation’s longest win streak at 20-games, entered the Coaches’ poll for the first time in school history on Feb. 22, 2005 with a No. 25 ranking. The Zags moved up to No. 23 a week later on March 1, 2005.
Gonzaga is only the third West Coast Conference team to enter the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll. The University of Portland ended the 1996-97 regular-season with a No. 25 ranking. Bulldog head coach Kelly Graves was then an assistant coach on the Pilots squad. The University of San Francisco is the other WCC entrant with four rankings during the 1996-97 season and a No. 16 spot in the final 1995-96 poll after a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
GU’s contest at SMC is set for 7 p.m. and its game at USD is a 2 p.m. tip.
