Zag Expansion Blurbs from The Athletic Article on Pac-12/Big-12 Drama

Colorado, Arizona State, and Arizona are the most likely to jump to the Big 12 and are in the most advanced talks. Vilanova and Gonzaga are still moving full speed ahead but UConn is definitely out. Utah is leaning towards staying in the Pac-12.

Also heard tonight from my contact in Kansas that the Big 12 has formally offered membership to Gonzaga after Fox Sports and ESPN just increased the payment to have the Big 12 grab the Gonzaga. Don't be surprised if Gonzaga and BYU make a run to include St. Mary's in the basketball only segment of the Big 12 in the future.

There is zero chance the B12 would invite UConn for just it's football team. That would be a huge detriment to the league.
They are taking the UConn terrible football program as a pot sweetener to get them to move BBall and everything else. (If the offers are being made)

Bart I understand you feel a GU move to the B12 isn't necessary and a bad decision; however, I'm not sure where your information on the four added schools (UCF, UC, UH and BYU) are not joining for basketball originates BUT these four schools will be complete members of the B12 Conference. UConn on the other hand has not yet been invited and it is only speculation, if the B12 gives them an invite. You mentioned them above as they will not join for Bball, since the BE is a very viable and strong conference for Bball, this could well be true and maybe the reason GU is mentioned for a possible invite.

I still don't know why GU is continually being mentioned for an invite to B12 as we would be the only non-football school in the conference but time will tell when this all shakes out.

Gonzaga's brand is powerful. They get eyeballs on the TVs when they play. They'd meet the west coast influence Yormark wants and more.

As for football, I don't think there's an issue with an odd number of teams, makes scheduling decently easier.

Why not a league with just UCLA and GU? Home and Home + every other game being played at some fun vacation destination. It'd take me a while to tire from watching the two play one another.

Yes.....I know this has all been beaten to death.....but in my opinion....Texas and Oklahoma leaving......and BYU and UConn and Cinny joining are all about football.......it was the only option for BYU and UConn and Cincy won't join for basketball.......

And yes, I know what Yormark has said about basketball and the west.....but to date he has been all talk and the Big 12 is not competitive in Football with the SEC or the Big 10.....so we shall see.....

Just my two cents...

These could be the two divisions:

East(?): KU, KSU, ISU, WVU, UConn, UCF, UH and UC

West(?): BU, TTU, TCU, OSU, BYU, CU, UA and GU


Home and Home within your division and four games with the other division...two at home and two away and then rotate the following year to complete the cycle...

Well...kinda...but I would prefer the current Big 12 with all sports and a home and home....whatever happens, I will always be a fan....
