VanDerveer and Few were chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s national voting academy, comprised of leading media members from around the country, current and former head coaches, former award winners and conference commissioners, all of whom based their selections on outstanding coaching performances during the 2020-21 college basketball season. Additionally, fans had the opportunity to cast a ballot through naismithfanvote.com and on the @NaismithTrophy and NCAA @MarchMadness Twitter pages, which accounted for 5% of the overall vote. The vote was tabulated and certified by Aprio, a premier CPA-led business advisory firm, headquartered in Atlanta.
Gonzaga University head coach Mark Few heads the list of recipients as the NABC Coach of the Year presented by Wilson after guiding the Zags to an unbeaten season heading into the 2021 NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis. Iowa’s Luka Garza earned recognition with two major awards, NABC Division I Player of the Year powered by ShotTracker and the Pete Newell Big Man of the Year, which he also received a year ago.
This group of four will receive their awards on Friday, April 2, during the AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show. The show is the finale of the 2021 NABC Convention, being conducted this year on a virtual platform due to the pandemic. The NABC holds its convention each year in conjunction with the NCAA Men’s Final Four.

“They go to school. They do their homework. They shake hands. They say please and thank you. But once you throw that ball up, they will rip your heart out and watch you bleed.” -- Jay Bilas
