  • Sloot is the New Chicago Sky All-Time Scoring Leader

With her 14 points in the last game, Courtney Vandersloot passed her wife Allie Quigly as the all-time scoring leader. My guess is that Allie and Sloot will be trading this position back and forth all year. Currently Allie has been sitting out the last couple of games with an injury.

She's been up and down this season so far, but having a great game today. 24/7/7 on 10-17 shooting. Did just miss a potential game winner, now going OT. Sky are struggling, I think they've lost 3 straight. Too many key players out.

Yep, Quigley and Parker are out, but when you give the opposition 21-27 turnovers per game in the last 3 games, it becomes very difficult to win no matter who is on the court.

Sloot had a 4 point play to cut a 5 point deficit down to 1. The last 2 minutes or so of OT was absolutely awful basketball by both teams. Honestly looked like they were both trying to lose, but only one team can be successful at that. Just atrocious. Sparks won. Sky might not win another game until they get their players back. They're also missing Dolson, who's been w/ the 3X3 National Team competing in a tourney. She's had an up and down pro career, but they could probably use her too.

          Man, the Sky...

Turned it on w/ about a minute and a half left. Sky up 6. From there they totally screwed it up again. Still up 2, Phoenix got a D board w/ about 8 seconds left, Kia Nurse dribbled to half court and let loose w/ a bomb that swished w/ about .1 second left. Nobody really defended her particularly.

          edit--Sloot w/ another good game, 17 pts/10 assists/5 steals.

Sloot is only 6 assists from tying Taurasi for #4 on the all time list. Should have that by next game. D is out w/ an injury currently, so by the time she returns she should be WAY in the rear view mirror.

Sloot has 8 assists and counting, so she passed Taurasi. Sky got Quigley and Dolson back, but still no Parker. Another game, another double digit 4th quarter lead they're trying desperately to hold onto. Probably will screw it up again.

Speaking of screwing up, they wasted the #8 draft pick on a teenager from Australia who was on nobody else's draft board. She barely played over the course of 4 games, they traded her to Dallas who promptly cut her. They did get Dana Evans in the trade...who they could've drafted at #8 in the first place.

The Sky stink this year. Up 4 about midway thru Q4, then the Sparks go on a 12-1 run. Now trailing by 6 w/ 30 seconds left. Indiana is historically bad, if it wasn't for them Chicago would be the worst team in the league.

In the last 3 minutes, if you refuse to stop the ball and let the ball handler drive thru the key for a lay-up time after time, and you settle for questionable 3 point shots, you get what you deserve, another "L".

Sky have actually won 2 games in a row. Both were against Indiana, so not sure if that really counts.

Candace Parker is back. I watched the 2nd half of today's game. She's fairly ball dominant, so that means Sloot has the ball in her hands less often. Sloot only had 5 assists today, but I saw probably 3 gimme buckets her teammates missed that should've been assists.

Sky are 3-0 with Parker and 1-7 without Parker.

To be fair, several of those 7 losses they were without Quigley and Dolson as well as Parker.

Sky playing in one of the few games that have been on ESPN or ESPN2 this year. Jumped all over the Lynx to start (34-17 at one point), let them all the way back w/in 2, now stretching the lead out again before the half. Sloot is stat sheet stuffing--7 pts/7 assists/4 steals and a block for good measure.

Candace Parker is no doubt very talented...but I've never liked the way she plays. Not impressing me today either.

Sloot might hit the 2000 career assists mark tonight. 1990 coming into the game, 7 already at the half.

Sloot got that landmark out of the way midway thru Q3. Now she's been sitting for a while. Should be fresh and ready to go for Q4. Sky up big.

Sloot finished w/ 13 assists to go along w/ 10 pts. Sky killed the Lynx. Wasn't as close as the final margin indicates.

Yep, the Sky are up to 4th in the East, just 1/2 game behind Atlanta for 3rd and 2 games behind NY for 2nd place.

Big news on CV from tonight:

Allie Quigley scored a season-high 23 points, Courtney Vandersloot became the fourth player in WNBA history with 2,000 career assists and the Chicago Sky beat the Minnesota Lynx 105-89 on Tuesday night.

Vandersloot joined Sue Bird, Ticha Penicheiro and Lindsay Whalen to reach the mark. Vandersloot also reached double-digit assists for the 60th time in her career, finishing with 10 points, 13 assists and four steals.
Not bad Courtney. Keep on moving up.

Currently in 4th place on the all-time assists leaderboard. Can't move up any further this year, but assuming good health and no injuries, CV should catch 3rd place Lindsay Whalen near the end of next year (2022) and likely #2 Ticha Penicheiro near the end of the 2023 season. To make it to #1 (Sue Bird), Courtney would have to play 4-5 years after Sue retires, which could happen after this years season as Bird just turned 40.
