Free agent Kelly Olynyk agrees to three-year, $37 million deal with Detroit Pistons, agent says

Free agent Kelly Olynyk has agreed to a three-year, $37 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, his agent, Jeff Schwartz, told ESPN on Monday night.

After four solid seasons with the Miami Heat, Olynyk was dealt to the Rockets last season in a deal that sent Victor Oladipo to Miami.

Olynyk, 30, exploded on a rebuilding Houston team that let him be the focus of its offense at times, averaging 19 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists during his 27-game stint with the Rockets.

While never having reached those heights previously in his career, Olynyk has put together a solid track record of being able to contribute to winning teams during previous stops in Miami and Boston.

Olynyk, a 36.7% career 3-point shooter, shot close to 40% during his time with the Rockets.

That trade to the rockets likely helped his stock, wasn’t getting much burn in Miami and they turned him loose in H-Town and he showed up in a big way.

Interesting move for Kelly, just across the border from Ontario where he and Corey Joseph (great friends) grew up playing ball together.

Kelly will have a chance to mentor some younger players and should get and make in impact on the floor with a better team than Houston.

By now everyone knows what he can bring, so let's hope he is able to help them become a playoff contender.
