Texas A&M will not participate in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl because of COVID-19 issues within the program, leaving Wake Forest without an opponent as officials try to find a replacement team, sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

Due to a COVID outbreak on the team, the Aggies do not have enough players to participate in the game, which is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 31 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Wake vs. Aggies was an attractive match-up. . .

Elsewhere, Michigan is getting booster shots as a team, according to an ESPN story posted yesterday:

The Wolverines finished the season with one loss, to rival Michigan State, and beat Iowa in the Big Ten championship to make their first College Football Playoff semifinal. It has been a season of sacrifice already, with the leaders on the team taking more accountability to push each other past the 2-4 season in 2020.

As others spoke to the media on Tuesday, the message was the same: No one wants to squander this type of opportunity.

"My parents always told me when I was young, when you want something that's different, you have to make sacrifices," defensive tackle Christopher Hinton said. "As a team, we're in a position that only four teams in the country are in, and we have to make sacrifices. That's do something different on the weekend, wear a mask around the building.
Today, the Armed Forces Bowl will feature Missouri (6-6) vs. Army (8-4) 5:00pm PT, on ESPN.

A new College Football Playoff policy written this week in response to the surging omicron variant allows for a team to advance to the national championship -- and ultimately win it -- by its opponents having to forfeit, according to an updated set of COVID-19 policies the CFP released on Wednesday.

If one team is able to play in the title game and the other can't because of COVID-19 -- and the game can't be rescheduled -- the team that can't play will forfeit and its opponent will be declared the national champion. If both teams can't play on either the original or rescheduled date, the game will be declared a "no contest" and the CFP National Championship will be vacated for this season.
